‘Playing it Cool’ Trailer: Chris Evans Does A Romantic Comedy

Playing it Cool, which was filmed by director Justin Reardon back in 2012, is an upcoming movie starring Chris Evans and True Detective‘s Michelle Monaghan. At first, it appears to be a meta-esque social commentary on the romantic comedy sub-genre, but you quickly realize from the trailer that it’s nothing more than a stereotypical romcom.

Evans plays a young man – a screenwriter – who doesn’t believe in love and has had many a failed relationship, but is forced to write for a romantic comedy anyway. Of course, when he ends up meeting the right woman, “Her,” a.k.a. Monaghan’s character, that’s when his whole perspective on love changes. The only problem is that she already has a boyfriend, played by Ioan Gruffudd.

Playing it Cool is a little painful in just how stereotypical and generic it all looks, so it’s anyone’s guess how it managed to assemble such a terrific cast. It has Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Luke Wilson, Topher Grace, Martin Starr, and Giovanni Ribisi. This past April, Mackie and Evans both starred in the blockbuster hit, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Playing it Cool doesn’t have a release date.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Super Bowl Trailer

The event this evening had everyone gathering together with their families, biting their nails in anticipation.

No, not the Superbowl.

The highly anticipated, very mysterious reveal of the next movie Marvel has lined up, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel released a teaser trailer for the teaser trailer about a week ago, getting fans riled up for the TV spot teaser they were to release some time during the Superbowl.

Ridiculous, I know, to make a teaser for a teaser. But it sure built up anticipation, and the second trailer did not disappoint. Filled with explosions, crashing planes, gun fights, and espionage, this is a film that is sure to fly past all expectations set by the previous film.

In fact, it’s already rumored to have done so well that the Russo brothers have been tentatively assigned to the next Captain America movie. Marvel doesn’t take commitments lightly (ie: making Chris Evans and other lead heroes including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, etc. sign a 6-movie package deal). So if they’re putting the Russo brother’s up for round two, this means Something. What that Something is, we will be finding out promptly on April 4.

As for me, I’m most excited about the interpersonal relationship between Captain America and his nemesis in this film, the Winter Soldier, who, shall I say, has a very interesting backstory.

Marvel does as Marvel likes, and thus, I suspect that we will perhaps get one more (or two, hopefully) trailers before the release of the movie, two months from now. Until then, all we can do is re-watch the trailer, and marvel (pun intended) at the amazing movie that is sure to push superhero movies to new heights.
