How excited are you for Marvel’s first female solo film?
Marvel announced that Brie Larson would be starring in Captain Marvel at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con International but we didn’t find out anything else about the story or the character whose civilian name is Carol Danvers. This year, president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige revealed a few plot details, as well as some concept art.
- Captain Marvel will take place in the early 1990s. Since the Infinity War poster featured Captain Marvel herself, it’s safe to assume she’ll appear in at least a cameo role. My best guess is that S.H.I.E.L.D. or The Avengers will find Captain Marvel’s body floating in space and revive her, similar to what happened with Captain America. Or maybe some time travel will be involved?
- We’ll get to meet a younger Nick Fury, one that has two eyes. We’ve seen Marvel de-age their actors before, and pretty convincingly. Will we see a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson?
- The villains of the film will be the Skrulls. In the comics, Skrulls are shapeshifting aliens who have invaded Earth in multiple issues and long been at war with another alien species known as the Kree. Interestingly, Carol Danvers is half-Kree.
- Captain Marvel’s costume resembles the Jamie McKelvie design.
We still have a ways to go before Captain Marvel premieres in theaters. Currently, the release date is set for March 8, 2019. It will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
