CBS Trailers: It’s Not A Bird, It’s Not A Plane, It’s ‘Supergirl’

Aside from the cheesy pop music and Devil Wears Prada callbacks, this looks really good!

Supergirl is coming to CBS courtesy of Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler. The duo were behind ABC’s short-lived family superhero drama No Ordinary Family, and Berlanti has brought two popular DC superheroes to the small screen with Arrow and The Flash. He’s also working on another Arrow spin-off, Legends of Tomorrow.

Glee‘s Melissa Benoist plays Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl. The trailer give away most of the pilot episode, and we find out why Kara decides to go into the superhero business. What’s interesting is that Kara’s cousin Superman himself gets several mentions. Apparently, he’s a known figure in the Supergirl universe and Kara knows they’re related.

The supporting cast includes Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Jeremy Jordan, and Laura Benanti. Both Jordan and Benanti will appear in a recurring capacity, with Jordan as the tech wizard who helps Kara with her costume and Benanti as Kara’s biological mother.

It’s not a bird. It’s not a plane. It’s not a man. It’s Supergirl. In the new drama from the world of DC Comics, Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, embraces her superhuman abilities and becomes the hero she was always meant to be.
