Veep is coming back for a fourth season on HBO and they’re bringing House’s Hugh Laurie in an as of yet unmentioned role. Selena Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) ascended to POTUS at the end of last season and according to the newly released trailer, she intends to show everyone that she’s “a lone, fierce she-wolf.” Creator and executive producer Armando Ianucci, who cut his teeth on British political shows like The Day Today, has ensured the show will not lighten up on its refreshingly honest dark humor. Quick wit and stellar acting still shine through the sneak preview to continue Veep’s reign as one of the strongest political shows on television.
All the members of the main cast including Amy (Anna Chlumsky), Gary (Tony Hale), Mike (Matt Walsh), Dan (Reid Scott), and Sue (Sufe Bradshaw) will return for the same political hijinks but on a much grander scale. Selena’s move to the highest power in the land promises an engaging season as she tries to define herself as the first female president and somehow top her uncompromising approach to the vice presidency.
The show will return to HBO on April 12 along with Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley. Each year Veep has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, but has yet to win – maybe this year will be the one.
