Trailer for Sam Raimi’s ‘Poltergeist’ Already Knows What Scares You

Nice white family moves to new house, check. Dad calls it a fixer-upper, check. Little kids talk to “nobody”, check. Toy lights up in the middle of the night, check. House is revealed to have been built on haunted ground, check. And, oh look, a creepy clown. Gee, I wonder what genre Poltergeist is? Thaaat’s right, a romantic comedy!

Sam Raimi and Gil Kenan’s reboot of classic horror film series Poltergeist released its first trailer earlier today. I still haven’t seen the original yet (fie and shame, I know) so I don’t have that as a basis of comparison, but so far this remake looks… uninspired? If I do end up watching this it’ll probably just be for the two Sams, Raimi and Rockwell. You can check the trailer out for yourself below and let me know what you think:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan reimagine and contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

Poltergeist will star Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Saxon Sharbino, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Jane Adams. The film is slated for release July 24, 2015.
