‘Parks and Rec’ Exec Harris Wittels Has Died

This is awful news. Harris Wittels, a co-executive producer and writer on Parks and Recreation and a frequent guest on the comedy podcast circuit, has died. He was 30-years-old.

An exact cause of death hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s suspected to be a drug overdose. Wittels has talked about his struggles with addiction many times, including on the You Made It Weird podcast with Pete Holmes back in November 2014.

Before Parks and Rec, he wrote for The Sarah Silverman Program. He also wrote a few episodes of Eastbound & Down. Some of my favorite Parks and Rec episodes were written by Wittels — “Media Blitz,” “Road Trip,” “The Treaty,” and “Women in Garbage.” He hosted the one-off Analyze Phish podcast on the Earwolf network, as well.
