First Trailer Released for J.K. Rowling’s ‘The Casual Vacancy’ Mini-Series

J.K. Rowling fans, rejoice! BBC recently released the trailer for The Casual Vacancy, a three-part miniseries that will be airing on February 15th on BBC and April 29th on HBO.

Michael Gambon, who Harry Potter fans will recognize as Dumbledore, stars as Howard Mollison, alongside Keeley Hawes, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan, and Julia McKenzie.

The Casual Vacancy is the first major piece of literary work that Rowling released post Harry Potter. The novel, published in 2012, revolves around a seemingly insignificant and suburban English town Pagford that is shaken up by the death of Barry Fairbrother, a Parish Councillor. Quite dissimilar to the themes present in Harry Potter, the story mainly revolves around politics, class, and other related social issues as citizens of the town fight for Barry’s spot on the parish council.

The series is directed by Jonny Campbell (In The Flesh) and written by Sarah Phelps (EastEnders).
