Second Trailer Lands for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Disinterested though I may be in the new Ant-Man movie, I’m positively salivating for Avengers: Age of Ultron. A new trailer dropped that includes scenes from the previous teaser, as well as new material. A bigger picture of the plot has begun to take shape, with the robotic artificial intelligence called Ultron as the Big Bad.” Everyone creates the thing they dread,” says Ultron’s voiceover while Tony Stark stands in a thrashed work space. Thanks, Stark, for bringing about the Cyberdyne Systems apocalypse we all thought we’d escaped.

“No matter who wins or loses,” warns Nick Fury, “trouble always comes around.” Hundreds of killer robots scale a hill of rubble, and a mysterious woman disrobes by an underground lake. Thor is pissed at Tony for meddling in affairs he can’t control, and we catch a familiar glimpse of Scarlet Witch throwing her energy blasts around like a firebender.

“We have no place in the world,” Black Widow intones, from what looks a lot like an origin flashback. A few clips down there’s a long shot of the Hulk touching palms with Natasha, their gazes meeting as his eyes transition from green to soft brown. Did someone say romantic subplot? Oh, right, that was me in 2012 screaming “ROMANTIC SUBPLOT!” to anyone who’d listen. I remember the unusual tension these two characters had in Avengers. I know what an introduction in soft, warm lighting means, and I know my Joss Whedon material.

One of the highlights of the upcoming film will no doubt be the conflict between Iron Man and The Hulk, as Stark uses his “Hulk Buster” suit to hold back a transformed Bruce Banner. Add Captain America to the mix, and May 1st can’t come soon enough!

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015.
