Agent Carter may be Marvel’s boldest show yet.
The minute-long sneak peek features Peggy chatting with her apparent roommate, a nurse (Ashley Hinshaw) working with sick and wounded vets. The blonde woman encourages Peggy to keep the beautiful red dress (which we saw her wearing in Captain America: The First Avenger), coyly suggesting she wear it out on a date. Peggy smiles politely, all while reloading a gun locked away in the top of her dresser.
Largely driven by fan demand, Marvel will be airing the first episode of the long-anticipated, female-led series about Peggy Carter, working for the SSR and establishing the very beginnings of what will later be known as SHIELD.
While I have no doubt that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was already in the works when they were making The Avengers, I believe that Agent Peggy Carter was born out of the surprising success and popularity of the character. Having tested the waters with a 10-minute Marvel One-Shot released earlier in 2013, Marvel gave the go-ahead to begin pre-production later that year, with filming taking place during the bulk of 2014.
Set in 1946, the TV show will feature Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, running around completing various top-secret, dangerous missions. Hayley has been periodically updating her Twitter and Instagram since principle production began, often joking about accidentally knocking out her stuntmen coworkers.
Featuring numerous fight scenes and espionage with a good dose of 50’s era nostalgia, Agent Carter is bound to ring in the new year with a bang on January 6, 2015.
