Alicia Vikander, Oscar Isaac, and Domhnall Gleeson star in the sci-fi suspense drama Ex Machina. Alex Garland, screenwriter for 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd, wrote and directed.
Caleb (Gleeson), a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan (Isaac), the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl (Vikander).
Not everything is as it seems, of course.
The beginning of the trailer rather ominously states that “to erase the line between man and machine is to obscure the line between men and gods,” and that combined with the fact that big Artificial Intelligence films dealing with these types of themes rarely end well, mean both Caleb and the viewers are in for a wild ride.
Ex Machina doesn’t yet have a release date, but you can view the official film website here.
