HBO has confirmed in a new press release that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of True Detective; Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes.
The logline for the second season reads, “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”
Farrell’s character is named Ray Velcero, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”
Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”
Lin is best known for his work on the Fast and the Furious franchise, while Vince Vaughn is primarily known for his comedic work on films like The Internship and Wedding Crashers. If you take a closer look at his filmography, however, you’ll see that Vaughn does have some dramatic roles under his belt.
On Sunday, Farrell told an Irish newspaper that he was excited about appearing on the critically-acclaimed crime drama series.
Production is set to begin later this fall in California.
