Everyone’s favorite Chris (sorry Hemsworth, Evans, and Pine) is hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time this week. He played Star Lord in the box office smash Guardians of the Galaxy and is best known for his role as Andy on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, so it only makes sense that he would be the first guest booked on SNL for its upcoming 40th season.
In August, longtime SNL announcer Don Pardo passed away at the age of 96 and SNL alum Darrell Hammond was hired to replace him. Showrunner Lorne Michaels has stated that they are planning a tribute for Pardo.
In the promo above, Chris Pratt is joined by Kate McKinnon, known for her celebrity impressions of Ellen Degeneres, Jane Lynch, and more. The musical guest for the premiere episode will be Ariana Grande, who has been at the center of some scathing reports about her behind-the-scenes behavior. The up and coming pop diva has charted three times this summer with her singles “Problem,” “Break Free,” and “Bang Bang,” so she would be another natural choice for SNL this season. She will take to the stage with her “Problem” co-singer Iggy Azalea.
Future hosts and musical guests include Sarah Silverman and Maroon 5, Bill Hader and Hozier, and Jim Carrey.
The 40th season of Saturday Night Live will premiere on September 27, 2014 on NBC.
