Colin Farrell Will Be On ‘True Detective’ Next Year

It’s official! One of the casting rumors surrounding True Detective has been confirmed. Colin Farrell will be appearing on the second season of the popular HBO anthology series.

The Saving Mr. Banks actor revealed the news to an Irish newspaper: “I’m so excited… I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”

Although rumors have pointed to Taylor Kitsch (The Normal HeartJohn Carter) and Vince Vaughn having also been cast, neither have them have officially signed on, according to Farrell. None of the actresses rumored to be up for the role of the female police official – Elisabeth Moss, Rachel McAdams, Rosario Dawson, Oona Chaplin, Brit Marling, and Jessica Biel – have signed on, either.

What we do know for sure is that Nic Pizzolatto is writing and Farrell will star. Meanwhile, Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6, Fast Five) and William Friedkin (Killer Joe) are being eyed to direct.

Season 2 will take place in a lesser known region of California, with the focus being on three police officials. Pizzolatto described the synopsis as, “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

This is the story, according to Film Divider.

I can tell you now that these would make up two corners of the series’ central triangle of investigators, two men and a woman from different Californian cities and their own distinct branches of the State’s law enforcement bodies, coming together to uncover a whole mess of corruption.

The third corner will be a woman, a character in her 30s. She’s a Monterey Sherrif with – as you might well expect – trouble in her past and problems in her day-to-day.

Her issues are with alcohol and gambling. Farrell’s character has terrible problems with cocaine and anger management. The young guy, a member of the California Highway Patrol, has been suspended for sexually exploiting a young woman he pulled over. Nobody is clean. It’s still True Detective.

Season 2 of True Detective will premiere in 2015.

Are you excited? Who would you cast on a season of True Detective?
