‘A Most Violent Year’ Trailer: Starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain

J.C. Chandor’s A Most Violent Year is a contender for the Oscars with its two leads being the award-nominated and super talented Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty). Chandor himself wrote and directed Margin Call and last year’s All Is Lost, which just barely missed out on an Oscar nom for Robert Redford.

From the trailer, A Most Violent Year definitely looks like it’s going to be brutal, vicious, and dark. Even Chastain’s look seems to be inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface, another incredibly violent movie involving an iconic machine gun scene. According to EW, Isaac plays Abel Morales, “the idealistic and well-intentioned gas businessman whose growing profits bump up against the New York underworld. His wife, Anna (Chastain), has some family connections who might be able to lend him some muscle.”

A thriller set in New York City during the winter of 1981, statistically one of the most violent years in the city’s history, and centered on a the lives of an immigrant and his family trying to expand their business and capitalize on opportunities as the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built.

A24 Films, the production company behind A Most Violent Year, has been having a stellar year with Tusk, Laggies, Obvious Child, Locke, Under the Skin, and Enemy.

A Most Violent Year opens in theaters on December 31st.
