Melissa McCarthy’s new movie, Tammy, is co-written and directed by her husband – Ben Falcone – and stars McCarthy has a woman having the worst day of her life.
You’ll remember Falcone as the air marshal McCarthy hooks up with in Bridesmaids. He’s also appeared with McCarthy in The Heat and Identity Thief. Tammy co-stars Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Kathy Bates, Sandra Oh, Dan Aykroyd, and Mark Duplass.
The teaser trailer below doesn’t give away much, except for tone and character, but it definitely made me laugh. So job well done. Here’s the plot description for Tammy:
Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house. It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option—with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shotgun, it may be just what Tammy needs.
Tammy will premiere in theaters on July 2nd.
