Unfortunately, Snowpiercer, which has gotten rave reviews overseas, still doesn’t have a U.S. release date.
And for that, you can thank Harvey Weinstein, who is so bullheaded about re-editing the film before distributing it to American audiences – presumably because he thinks the average movie-going American is woefully ignorant and wouldn’t be able to understand the movie as is.
Director Bong Joon-Ho isn’t down with that, however. So even if Weinstein ends up making changes to the film, Bong is fighting to make sure that we also get a director’s cut of Snowpiercer in theaters. At the Mar del Plata Film Festival in Argentina, Bong said:
The good news is that after all the speculation and comments about that 20-minute cut, and considering the original version that was released in Korea and France also will be released in Japan and Hong Kong, we have been talking a lot about keeping the original cut for the U.S. release, so what I can say is… have faith.
And faith we shall have. In the meantime, here is an exclusive clip from Snowpiercer, featuring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, and Octavia Spencer.
