Trailer: The Dangers of Artificial Intelligence in ‘Transcendence’

It’s Johnny Depp in a movie that isn’t being directed by Tim Burton, doesn’t have Helena Bonham Carter, and where he isn’t playing an offensive caricature of Native Americans! Transcendence is the new science fiction movie by cinematographer Wally Pfister.

This is his first time directing a feature film. He’s previously done the cinematography for The Dark Knight Rises, Moneyball, Inception, The Prestige, and Memento – lots of Christopher Nolan movies.

Transcendence explores the idea of computers transcending the abilities of the human brain. In other words, it’s a world where computers are smarter than humans, thereby putting humanity in danger. While it’s not an entirely new concept, it looks like Transcendence will have a fresh take on the idea. The cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany.

Transcendence hits theaters on April 18th.
