Gal Gadot Talks About Playing Wonder Woman in “Batman vs. Superman”

Self-proclaimed Wonder Woman ‘fans’ were none too happy when it was announced earlier this month that Fast and Furious actress Gal Gadot was cast as the Amazonian princess/superhero in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Angry fanboys took to the Internet to criticize everything from Gadot’s physique to the size of her breasts.

In her first interview (via Batman-News), Gadot has finally addressed some of the criticism surrounding her. She states:

Hmm. I represent the Wonder Women of the new world. Breasts… anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine. By the way, Wonder Woman is amazonian, and historically accurate amazonian women actually had only one breast. So, if I’d really go “by the book”… it’d be problematic.

She also talks about training for the role:

It’s the physical preparations that I’m starting now. A very serious training regime – Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian… 1,000 and 1 thing… I’ll gain body mass.

Gotta say, I love her attitude and I’m excited to see her pull this off. Gadot is spot-on in her defense that Amazons are a mythical race to begin with, so who’s to say a small-breasted actress couldn’t play Wonder Woman? And isn’t that beside the point, anyway? What ultimately matters is that Gal Gadot brings the right energy, attitude, and personality to the role. Looks are important to a certain degree, but they’re only secondary, especially given the many different ways Wonder Woman has been drawn by many different comic book artists over the years.

Hopefully, Batman vs. Superman will do justice to the iconic DC character, even though I’d much rather see Wonder Woman make her big-screen debut in her own solo film. It still doesn’t look like there are any plans to make a solo Wonder Woman movie, however, and that’s really what comic book fans should be getting upset about.
