Emilia Clark, best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen aka Mother of Dragons on Game of Thrones, has been cast as Sarah Connor in the Terminator reboot. Since Alan Taylor, who’s worked on Game of Thrones before, is directing the reboot, it’s not entirely surprising. Unfortunately, Clarke has yet to ‘wow’ us with her performance on Game of Thrones. She’s definitely one of the weaker actresses in the cast, and her stint in the Broadway production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s didn’t exactly earn her rave reviews, either. (Fun Fact: Lena Headey, who also stars on Game of Thrones, played Sarah Connor in the short-lived Sarah Connor Chronicles.)
The shortlist of actresses that were being considered for the role of Sarah Connor also included Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany, who’s up for a Golden Globe next year, and Brie Larson, whose performance on Short Term 12 earned her the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Actress.
Meanwhile, Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) is being considered for the role of John Connor, Sarah’s son. The Terminator reboot, Terminator: Genesis, is scheduled for release on July 1, 2015.
