Vince Gilligan To Guest Star on “Community”

The new season of Community isn’t set to debut until January 2nd, but already the modestly-rated NBC comedy’s got a whole slew of interesting guest stars lined up including Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad), Walton Goggins (Justified), Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly), Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds), and stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani.

The latest one they’ve just booked is Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. In his first television acting role ever, Gillian will play a “smooth-talking gold digger who winds up exacerbating a fight between Annie and Abed.” [EW]

Despite my reservations about season 5, this line-up of guest stars has me looking forward to Community‘s return. As previously reported, creator Dan Harmon (who was absent from season 4) has returned and both Chevy Chase and Donald Glover are leaving the show. Glover will appear in just the first few episodes, before his character – Troy – makes his official exit.

This marks three Breaking Bad alumni to make appearances on Community. Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gus Fring on Breaking Bad, has appeared in two episodes (“Digital Estate Planning” and “Paranormal Percentage”) as Pierce’s half-brother.
