Batgirl, Vol. 3: “Death of the Family” is the number one graphic novel on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
Authored by the lovely and talented Gail Simone, the writer behind Secret Six and Birds of Prey, in issues #13-18, Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl “must face demons from her past when the Joker and her psychotic brother return.” If you recall, The Joker was responsible for crippling Batgirl, thus binding her to a wheelchair for several years, and turning her into Oracle.
In New 52, Batgirl has regained her mobility after visiting a clinic in South Africa, but suffers from PTSD thanks to her past experiences.
The dramatic cover art for Batgirl, Vol. 3: “Death of the Family” on the right shows The Joker, with his trademark, psychotic smile, standing over an unconscious Batgirl. In “Death of the Family,” The Jokers conspires to destroy everyone that Batman has come to rely on. The arc begin in Batman, and carries over to Batgirl, Batman and Robin, Catwoman, Nightwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Suicide Squad, and Teen Titans.
