50,000 Bands and One Disgusting Bathroom.
CBGB: Country, Bluegrass, Blues – but without all that country, bluegrass, or blues.
Founded in 1973 by Hilly Kristal, a New York club named for the styles of Country, Bluegrass, and Blues – CBGB – eventually became a birthplace and flourishing ground for punk and rock’n roll. The real-life club closed down in late 2006, but the CBGB film will trace the club’s beginnings and how it and the bands involved with it became such a huge success.
Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Dogma) will take on the role of Hilly Kristal. Acting alongside him are Ashley Greene, Stana Katic, Freddy Rodriguez, Bradley Whitford, Rupert Grint, Justin Bartha, Joel David Moore, Taylor Hawkins, Mickey Sumner, and more.
The trailer for the film promises drama, humor, money problems, equipment malfunctions, a gross bathroom and, most of all, great music. Among the bands that will feature are The Ramones, Misfits, Television, The Patti Smith Group, The Dead Boys, Iggy Pop, The Velvet Underground, The Police, Blondie, and Talking Heads.
CBGB will premiere in theaters this fall.
