Arden Cho has been cast in MTV’s Teen Wolf for the second half of season 3, which will begin airing January 6, 2014. Cho’s character – a new student of Korean and Japanese descent – will bring a “unique history” and a “new threat” to Beacon Hills.
Executive producer Jeff Davis revealed at Comic-Con that season 3B will have a “heavy Asian influence,” which will take the show in a different direction:
We’re heading into a new mythology based on the Kitsune myth, which some people might know a little bit about. It is a very, very fascinating Japanese shapeshifter myth about the were-fox and the trickster spirit. [E! Online]
Fan speculation is that Arden Cho’s character will be a Kitsune and might be a love interest for hero Scott McCall (Tyler Posey).
While I’m excited that another woman of color has been added to the cast, I’m wary that she’ll be killed off since Teen Wolf doesn’t have a great track record concerning their female and POC characters. Recently, Boyd (Sinqua Walls) – one of the few black characters on the show – was killed off, along with the first female werewolf on the show, Erica (Gage Golightly).
