El-P and Killer Mike collab on ‘Run The Jewels’

“Run The Jewels is not for your children.”

I’ve had this album on my hard drive for days now but I only just now got the chance to listen through it – and I totally get why this thing has got the hip-hop community buzzing. Consisting of emcees El-P and Killer Mike, the duo known as Run The Jewels released their self-titled collab work on Fool’s Gold Records, an independent hip-hop record label based out of Brooklyn.

The two have worked together before – El-P produced Killer Mike’s most recent album, R.A.P. Music, and the latter was also featured on a song in El-P’s Cancer 4 Cure – but this is the first time either of them have collaborated on a full comprehensive work. Each song on the album is harsh, hard-hitting, and raw, and El-P’s easily recognizable production ties in smoothly with both rappers’ vocals.

What’s more, the album is available for digital download at the low, low price of zero dollars (otherwise known as free) though you can also purchase CDs, vinyls, and merch for Run The Jewels. If you’re a hip-hop fan, you should definitely pick this one up – in fact, I highly recommend you try it out regardless of whether you’re a hip-hop listener, because this is a great album and trying out new things is fun.

Though I can’t pinpoint my personal favorites yet, the seventh track on the album – “No Come Down” – brought me a special type of joy, due to throwbacks to “Stay Down” off of Cancer 4 Cure. Listen to the track here:

You can check out tour dates, download Run The Jewels, and/or purchase some awesome looking t-shirts and an herb grinder at the Fool’s Gold website.
