“Drinking Buddies” and “Crystal Fairy” Trailers

Watch the trailer for Joe Swanberg’s Drinking Buddies, a romantic comedy-drama starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, Anna Kendrick, and Ron Livingston.

Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) work together at a craft brewery. They have one of those friendships that feels like it could be something more. But Kate is with Chris (Ron Livingston), and Luke is with Jill (Anna Kendrick). Jill wants to know if Luke is ready to talk about marriage. The answer to that question becomes crystal clear when Luke and Kate unexpectedly find themselves alone for a weekend.

The film premiered earlier this year at the South by Southwest film festival.

William Goss writes:

Wilde’s performance here not only makes the best case yet for her natural comedic chops; it also allows her plenty of subtly dramatic beats with which to convincingly convey the longing lurking beneath Kate’s tomboy exterior. Johnson is similarly gifted at finding the reluctant heart of his own character despite his scruffy look and jokey demeanor, and whenever both are flirting or fighting with one another, their chemistry is frankly off-the-charts. Drinking Buddies will be available on iTunes on July 25 and opens in theaters on August 23rd, 2013.

Meanwhile, you can watch Michael Cera in the upcoming indie comedy Crystal Fairy, directed by Sebastián Silva. The film was generally well-received at Sundance earlier this year.

On a trip through Chile a boorish American expat named Jamie (Michael Cera) and three Chilean brothers plan to set off in search of the prized San Pedro cactus and its promise of beachy hallucinations. But in the previous night’s drunken stupor Jamie invites a free-spirited fellow American (Gaby Hoffmann), whose devil-may-care worldview gives them more of an adventure than any of them had bargained for.

Cory Everett wrote:

While the film is loose, there’s never a moment where you’re taken out of the picture by realizing the actors might not know where they’re heading next. Cera may not have worked as the star of big-budget fare like Year One (frankly, would anyone have?), but he’s terrific here, reminding you why he shot up so quickly after Superbad and Arrested Development. Crystal Fairy hits theaters July 12, 2013.

  • I’m watching Drinking Buddies just coz Anna Kendrick’s in it! Woot!
